SECTION A Q1 A

Describe and evaluate your skills development over the course of tour production work from foundation portfolio in Advanced Production

Digital technology

In our preliminary exercise we edited it on iMovie. After the editing we learnt how to shorten clips and cut them down in order to make the clip faster and more interesting. We also learnt with the camera to frame everyone well and have an establishing shot to let the audience know what is happening. We also learnt the basics of iMovie through exporting our final product of the prelim. Through our prelim we also used a video camera for the first time and learnt how to zoom in and out and how to get our footage onto iMovie.

In our foundation production we had developed our skills in iMovie and in our planning of the film opening we were confident in our ability to edit well. We also included more advanced technological aspects into our production; an example of this is our voiceover and our edited color shots of the eye. This allowed more a more professional looking film opening. We found this successful in adding to our surreal theme throughout the opening.

We also included music over which created a mood of suspense. We also had to learn how to add better lighting into a shot, we did this in the scene showing the mental patient escaping, it lights up the figure well as he walks away. In the evaluation of this product we also enveloped our skills of new technology by uploading it up onto YouTube, this allowed for feedback from a wider audience so we could improve our product. For our ancillary task in our advertisement poster we used more technology. We used the software of Photoshop in order to make our poster look appealing to the audience by including more color and interesting fonts.

In our advanced production we felt we had a lot of experience with new technologies and decided to use iMovie again as we knew it best. I used a lot of new technologies to present my work on my blogger. For example I used Prezi to present my work in a more appealing way. I analyzed music videos using Prezi as it allowed for the videos to be included and short sharp points about the videos in a professional style. I also used Slide share, which allows presenting PowerPoint presentations online and embedding them into my blog. I found this successful as it added to my blogs appearance.

We also learnt how to use Adobe Premier and after effects, however we found this hard and more complicated as we felt more confident by using iMovie. We used iMovie also to correct color of our filming and at times match our theme by adding in more primary and bright colors. We also used Youtube to upload our video, however we found it hard to promote the video in order for feedback from a wider variety of audiences. I must have spent over 20 hours editing and my skills were tested in continuity editing. I am pleased I have acquired completely new skills in digital technology and feeling confident with them.

Creativity

In order to deliver a film opening I merely had to use continuity editing skills in post productions in a2 I had to add in the skills involved in order to prove to audience that it was my singer and stage which showed lip syncing with close up of the face and hands on guitars and drums. Performance involves creating opportunities to see the singers face in close up, the hands of the guitarist and the drummer and in post production learning to sync these this is one of the most difficult creative skills I have learned this year.

At As all my creative skills went into providing what needed to come across as a very realistic sequence of events. Mise en scene to create very similitude at this level creativity involved sourcing scouting out locations, e.g. looking for rough places like prison, costumes. However by A2 the greatest amount of creativity was in attempting to bring in something fresh innovative to interpret the lyrics, which would ensure repeat viewing of the music video. This is the key purpose of the music video, because the music video is the key vehicle for selling the album. For me the greatest leap forward in creativity was learning to use stop frame animation. We included this in our noughts and crosses and band shots. This created a more interesting fast paced shot.

I did want to include the story of the band and how well they related to each other because my band is a brand that I am selling to audiences, because I’m trying to create them as fictional therefore I wanted to include their hobbies, their playfulness and values. We also took a step forward with our camera angles, as we created the bandmaster shot by including the entire band tight in together showing all of them.

Throughout my blog work I have done a vast amount of experimentation with new technologies in order to present my work in a modern and appealing way. One example is through Prezi to research music videos, where the online presentation allows the viewer to guide through it breaking up the work into chunks and also bringing in images and videos. I have also used Slide share to compare our music video to others in evaluation 1. This is a simple PowerPoint presentation shared online through slide share, which I can also embed into my blog itself.
